Update your acceptable use policy and make sure all employees sign or electronically acknowledge it annually

Acceptable Use Policies (AUP) are often misinterpreted because of their name. In fact, nearly every one written primarily covers what type of actions and behaviors are unacceptable. It's important to make sure these policies are up to date. Technologies and workflows are changing all the time. You old AUP might discuss pagers and faxing, while completely missing important policy on the use of collaboration tools, video-conferencing, and more.
Be sure to update your AUP every two years at a minimum. These can be minor updates and likely don't require a complete overhaul. Equally important, make sure all employees sign a copy of this policy when they begin work and once per year after. This can be achieved digitally by "baking" it into your annual training courseware and simply requiring an acknowledgement that the policy has been read, understood, and agreed to.
