Cybersecurity Tip of The Day #12

Implement two-factor authentication in front of all remote access points

Credential theft has been on the rise for quite some time. Over half of people surveyed admit to using the same password on both personal and professional accounts, and nearly 60% of people who have been scammed in a phishing attack still have not changed their passwords!

Some of the ways organizations combat these issues is through complex and rotating passwords, which can be helpful if implemented in a practical manner; however, will not address short-term credential theft - a situation where an employee is phished and accidentally entered their credentials into a harvester site.

This is where two-factor authentication comes into play. It's extremely effective when guarding against credential theft, and if employees are properly trained to report fraudulent attempts, IT departments can successfully reset passwords of compromised accounts. While two-factor authentication is not bullet-proof, it will certainly raise the protection of corporate accounts significantly.
